For those of you who know me, I am a HUGE musical theatre fan. And my son's favorite of the moment? The Greatest Showman.
There's a song in the film called, "Come Alive" and every time I hear it, I can't help but think how relevant it is in Marketing. So today, I hope you'll indulge me as I relate just what these lyrics can teach us about Authentic Marketing, and how you might use the concepts to bring your marketing back to life (if it doesn't seem to have a pulse right now).

Ok, so know that you've felt THAT, here's what we can take away for our marketing efforts!
You Stumble Through Your Days
I feel like a lot of people feel like they're just "stumbling around in marketing". Trying this, thrying that, but not really seeing anything moving the needle. And the more we stumble, the greyer the sky seems to become.
Like A Zombie in a Maze
This one too...we're just wandering around in a daze, not really thinking about what we're doing (because we either don't have time or don't have the authority to do something different). We might as well be asleep (that would probably be better actually, since it would at least be feeding the humans somehow).
But You Can Shake Awake!
This is a key component to any activity - not just marketing - YOU control whether or not you want to feel that way. Tired of stumbling around in the grey like a zombie? Choose NOT to do that. Shake yourself awake.
Thinking That's Your Only Option
Oh, so many people think that "xyz" is the only option in marketing. To be on every platform. To find the "perfect" header for your landing page. I have to do "this", everyone else is doing "that". But marketing is MASSIVE. There are SO many options. And the one that allows you to be "electrified"? It's definitely not the one that you currently think is the only option ;)
Take the World and Redefine It
If your marketing world feels small, you can redefine it. Marketing CAN deliver the things you want it to; there might just be a different path to that. A path you haven't travelled yet. And yes, that means there's risk on the path (because you don't know that it's going to work yet), but at least it has the potential to work...which is different than the things you're already doing that you KNOW don't work.
Leave Behind Your Narrow Mind
The path you're walking right now with your marketing? It's one very narrow path. You can keep walking it - getting the exact same things you are now - or you can look for a wider path. But will just any path do?
Go & Light Your Light, Let It Burn So Bright
When your marketing starts from YOUR light, the reason you got into this business in the first place, it hits differently. When you're creating it, and when people are consuming it.
You Believe That Lie (that you need to hide your face)
This one is all too common in B2B businesses; you believe that it's all about your product and that the features will sell themselves. But if that's not happening today, is that true? If we're hiding our faces, why? Because we believe that's all that's available to us. Except it's not.
Afraid To Step Outside
Yes, it's scary to do something different than everyone else in your industry. If we're doing the same things, we stay safe. If we just stay in side our cosy cocoon, we don't risk anything "bad" happening. But we also prevent anything particularly good from happening.
The world's biggest companies? They didn't get that way by copying their competitors and staying safe. They took big risks. And not just to take a risk, but because who they are as a company convinced them it was worth the risk.
No More Living In Those Shadows
It's dark in someone else's shadow. And personally, I don't believe in being over-shadowed by someone else when, by nature, you are unique. You can step out of your competitors shadow any time by tapping into your own Creative Advantage.
And once you see it, you'll never, never be the same ✨
We Will Be The Light
Isn't this exactly what we're trying to be for our customers? The light in their darkness to solve their problem? How will they believe that about us if we aren't BEING it?
You Cannot Be Afraid
Well, you CAN be afraid. It will just always keep you chasing. Chasing competitors. Chasing sales. Chasing customers. Giving discounts. In a race to the bottom. But if you decide to practice being BRAVE, you actually open the door that shines your light out of it.
You're Electrified
What would that even feel like in your marketing? Can you even imagine today? From grey, zombie mode, it can be difficult to believe it can feel like anything else. But it is possible, if you decide you DESERVE to feel electrified in your marketing. And that your customers do, too.
Come one, Come all, Come in, Come on
Marketing is an invitation. An invitation to learn more. An invitation to address your challenge. To fix your problem. We invite anyone with THIS problem to come in. To join us. To get into the conversation. To feel connected. And once people get excited to accept one invitation, they're more open to accepting more...like the one to buy.
To anyone who's searching for a way to break free...
