Your Marketing Magic Bullet...
So, so many people and business are trying to convince you that they have the Magic Bullet solution for you. A podcast. A book. An email funnel. This posting strategy. That video creation methodology.
With so many "magic bullets" on the market, generally what happens is that people get confused. And then NOTHING works.
So, in a world of so many "magic bullets", is there ACTUALLY one thing that makes it all work?
One ring to rule them all?
There is...but it's not what you think.
It's not a strategy. Or a tactic. Or a platform. Or a calendar. Or a specific consultant.
It's Respect
Respect for the following things:
Respect for your customers (and where they're at)
Respect for your knowledge (and how you can help)
Respect for your way (and how it comes together to deliver results)
Let's dive into each of these in a little more detail to see how they come to life in Marketing 😉
Respect for Your Customers
There are so many "tactics" in marketing that people - and companies - try to use without understanding where their customers are today. That might be related to where they are physically, mentally, emotionally, socially...whatever relates to your specific solution for them.
If our customers aren't in buying mode on social media, then how much does it matter that we post on Instagram every day?
If our customers aren't in the market for new shoes, why are we trying to convince them to buy new shoes?
If our customers already feel overwhelmed, why aren't we doing anything to HELP them (besides adding to their overwhelm)?
If I want my clients to respect me, how do I achieve that if I don't respect them first?
In marketing, we often get caught up in what we want our ideal clients to do; to click here, or buy that, to download this whitepaper, or sign up for my email list.
But that's all about YOU.
And if you're not respecting what THEY need (and you haven't put in any effort to get to know what that is), then WHY would thye do what you want?
Oh yeah, they won't. And probably aren't 💡
Respect for Your Knowledge
So, while I listed the customers FIRST in this article, this next piece is EQUALLY relevant in creating marketing that is meaningful.
Because if you think that what you do is just about the same as everyone else that does it, well then, you're not going to be communicating a lot of confidence out into the world.
And regardless of where you are sharing your expertise, if you don't consider it expertise, others aren't going to either.
Now, does that mean you know everything?
Of course not.
But you DO know MORE about your area of expertise than most people. Likely, because you CARE about it more than most people.
I know more about Marketing than my clients.
But THEY know more about water recycling, and custom home building, and HRIS systems, and martial arts, and publishing books (to name a few).
Is it my job to know more about what THEY know than they do?
No. That's THEY'RE area of expertise.
Mine is Authentic Marketing. I own that.
And are other people out there doing it? Sure.
But I KNOW that my way works. And I've got enough successful clients to prove it does.
Does that mean everyone needs my help?
Nope-ity, nope nope.
But it DOES mean that when someone DOESN'T need my help, I don't feel the desire to scratch everything I'm doing to try and fit into what THEY need.
I move on.
Because again, at the end of the day, if you don't respect your knowledge, why would you expect someone else to?
Respect for Your Way
Now, you may not have FOUND Your Way yet. After all, it's SUPER easy to copy other people's ways of doing things...specifically in marketing.
But, you see, the marketing system that will work for you is a unique puzzle. One that is built BY you, FOR you. And while it might feel easier to copy another "successful strategy", the likelihood that it's successful for you is slim to none.
Because it wasn't built for YOU to be successful.
It was built for whoever created it to be successful. And now they're selling it to other people like an actual magic bullet.
But when you have respect for YOUR way, you can observe OTHER ways, try them on for yourself, and see what fits.
And keep what fits, and get rid of what doesn't.
Which adds up to you figuring out what works for YOU. Without you changing yourself into something else that wasn't created for you.
All the largest companies in the world? They market THEIR way.
And they don't get distracted by their competitors.
So, by all means, look at what your competitors are doing. But if that's not what YOU would do, go do YOU. After all, that's why you got into the market in the first place right? To fill a gap your competitors don't?
R-E-S-P-E-C-T (find out what it means to YOU)
Sure, it would be cool if there was ACTUALLY a Marketing Magic Bullet.
Actually, I take that back.
Because then everyone would be doing the same thing.
And how boring would that be?
And your ability to stand out?
Non-existent.
So, what would it look like to focus on respecting the three things listed above? How could you incorporate that into more of your marketing time?
It just might make a WHOLE bunch of stuff easier 😉
